BIOGRAPHY
Mary Beth Schwartzenberger grew up in the concrete world of Chicago with a strong love of nature. That contrast of surfaces informs her work to this day.
The beginning of Ms. Schwartzenberger's artistic training was steeped in the time when our culture honored all things handmade. Fiber, ceramics, glass were "new" fields exploding with experimentation. Mary Beth received her Bachelor of Art degree at Columbia College in Chicago, a school renowned for its apprehenticeship programs and instructors who were making a living in their chosen fields.
Ms. Schwartzenberger relocated to Los Angeles, where her experiences led her to exhibit a line of handwoven clothing through the American Craft Council shows.
Over time, her weaving led to making paper - and she continues to this day working with paper as fabric. Nature themes still dominate, from realistic to abstract, all dwelling in the worlds of color and texture. She maintains a studio in southern California.
Mary Beth has exhibited both nationally and internationally and has been honored by many recognitions.
